Mark Renfree – Principal Environmental Scientist

Principal Environmental Scientist Mark Renfree B.Sc. (Hons) (Zoology) brings over ten years professional experience in environmental science, water quality, aquatic ecology and fisheries management. Bringing extensive knowledge from the private and public sector, Mark is predominately experienced in the environmental management of resource mining (coal, metalliferous, coal seam gas) with a strong focus on freshwater ecology. Mark has worked for a range of consultancies including SKM (Jacobs), AECOM, frc environmental and NRA. He also has experience working for the Queensland state government as part of the fisheries department and has direct industry experience working as an aquatic ecologist in the coal seam gas industry for Origin.

Mark has extensive experience in project managing, designing, conducting and reporting for Receiving Environment Monitoring Programs (REMPs). This experience comes directly from conducting REMP surveys and annual reports for consulting companies as well as project managing REMPs for all of Origin’s coal seam gas operations in the Surat Basin.

Mark is an Accredited Ecologist for the Australian River Assessment System (AusRivAS), a senior Operator in electrofishing practice and recently attended a Masterclass workshop on Water Quality and the Environment (presented by the experts in charge of rewriting the Australian and New Zealand Guidelines for Fresh and Marine Water Quality (ANZECC 2000)). Mark has a Bachelor of Science (Marine Biology and Zoology) and Honours in Zoology. 

Mark has experience with a wide range of clients including the mining industry (coal and metalliferous), coal seam gas industry, water authorities, councils, project alliances, airport corporations, project management companies and transport authorities.
